Teaching procedures:
Step 1: Lead- in
Show Ss a picture from one’s back and asks Ss who he is,
Ask Ss which words will come to their mind when thinking of their fathers.
Step2: Quick reading
Get Ss to pay attention to the title and ask them what does the author think of his father?
Possible answers: caring, independent, responsible, successful…
Ask Ss what does “successful” mean in the common sense
Possible answers: a large fortune, a wide range of knowledge, high education…….
Step3: Further reading
Get Ss to read through the passage fast and see what qualities contribute to the father’s success. For each quality, list as many examples as possible.
Ask Ss to give their own interpretations of the title “my father, my hero”
Get Ss to give the word “successful” another thought and give their own definition of the word.
Step4: Group work(4 Ss in a group)
What kind of people can be called “hero” or “successful person”
Select a successful person in your daily life and give the class a report.
Group leader give a report to the class(the good qualities that you illustrate in your report should be accompanied by examples and comment)
Step5: summary and homework
1. Polish up your report to make it better.
