5 minutes

The teacher is leading the learners to the topic Dream and the learners are talking with each other about their own dreams.

Prediction

To give the learners a chance to predict the content of the text to help them understand the general meaning.

2 minutes

The teacher asks the learners to look at some pictures and predict what the girl’s dream is.

Skimming

To practice and develop the learners’ ability to skim for general meaning of a text

3 minutes

The learners are asked to read the text very quickly and find out one sentence in the text that can be the title. Then the learners discuss with each other and try to translate the title into Chinese. In this way, the learners can get a general idea of the text. If their translation is not correct, it doesn’t matter, because later, after careful reading, they will be asked to translate the title again to check their understanding.
