Teaching procedures:
StepI Understand the title “Wheels”
The teacher draws a picture of a bicycle on the blackboard to show the meaning of wheels. Then let the students tell the the things with wheels.
Step II Guess the content of the whole unit
According to the title, the students work in pairs and guess what will be talked about in this unit. The teacher can give students a hint.
Step III Talk about means of transport
Make a survey about how students go to school every day. Meanwhile teach the words: cyclist, pedestrian, motorist, pilot, captain, lorry driver. Then make a survey about how their parents usually go to work.
Step IV Make comments on the result of the survey
The expected result will be that most parents go to work by car. Ask students to make comments on the result and discuss the problems caused by using cars.
Step V Rethink your means of transport
After discussing the problems caused by using cars, the students think about new means of transport that are friendly to the environment.
Step VI Homework
Write a letter to your parents to persuade them to use cars less.
