Teaching procedures
Step1 Definition of subject-verb: subjects and verbs should agree in number and in person.
Three parts of subject-verb: agreement in grammar, agreement in notion, principle of proximity.
Step2 Rules
Rule1 (1) and 连接两个并列名词作主语,指同一个人或同一概念时(此时一般and 后连接的名词前没有修饰词),谓语动词用单数.
(2) and 连接两个并列名词作主语,指两个人或两个概念时,谓语动词用复数。
(3) Every…and every…, each…and each或no…and no…作主语时,谓语动词用单数形式
Rule2
all of, most of, some of, half of, (a) part of以及百分比,分数修饰名词或代词时,谓语动词取决于名词或代词。
Rule3
A pair of, a kind of, a set of. A series of等修饰名词或代词时,谓语动词用单数。
Rule4 principle of proximity
Not only...but also, not…but, neither…nor, either…or, or, there be, here be等
Rule5 就远原则
以with, along with, together with, without, like, rather than, but, except, as well as, as much as, no less than, besides, including, in addition to连接的两个主语,其谓语动词的单复数按第一个主语的单复数而定。
