Learn the differences between Past Simple and the Present Perfect.
Teaching Process
Step 1 Lead-in
Show some pictures of famous sportsmen and sportswomen, then ask:
Who are your sporting heroes or heroines?
Who is the sportsman or sportswoman you don't like?
In pairs, use the Key Words to talk about them.
Key Words
positive: brilliant, fast, smart, skillful, strong, useful
negative: awful, boring, lazy, slow, terrible, useless, weak
Encourage the students to add more words.
Step 2 Pre-reading
Show the photos of the two sisters, asking the students if they know anything about them. Collect any background information of the sisters.
Step 3 While-reading
Get the students to read the text quickly to match the topics with right paragraphs.
Ask the students to read the text again and answer some comprehension questions.
Do the exercise“True or False”, helping them better understand the text.
Lead the class to give the passage a proper title.
Step 4 Post-reading
Voice your opinion
What can we learn from their growth and success?
Step 5 Homework
Choose a star. Make notes about the important achievements or events in his/her life, and the dates they happened. Don’t worry if you are not exact.
