Aim of language knowledge : to have a good command of Halloween vocabulary.
Aims of language skill:
to be able to ask effective questions and obtain the main information about festival topics.
2. to obtain relevant information by reading strategies.
3. to give a brief introduction of Halloween by using the vocabulary and information learned in this lesson .
Aims of emotion and attitude: to be able to actively share information with partners, listen to others and learn from them.
Aims of cultural notion: to understand and respect foreign festival culture and cultivate the global-awareness.
Analysis of key and difficult points
The origins of Halloween are complex, involving Celts living in northern Europe, and Romans invading Europe and the Catholic church. Students are unfamiliar with these vocabulary and have trouble recognizing the order of events. Therefore, the teacher should focus on helping students get the main information with when, where, why, what and how as clues.
Teaching methods?
1. The teacher uses the Heuristic method of asking questions to encourage students to think about, discuss and summarize .
2. The teacher uses the computer to assist the teaching appropriately. Video and pictures create a real cultural atmosphere. By using the beautiful pictures and sound effect of multimedia, the learning content is presented to students vividly and students can effectively mobilize their vision, hearing and other organs to participate in activities, which can improve students’ interest in learning and inspire students’ divergent thinking.
