? Analysis of the Teaching Material
Module 2 focuses on Art and Design. Unit 5, The Arts, is about different kinds of music and dance to fulfill students’ overall understanding of the art world. Lesson 3, Experiment in Folk, this specially selected reading on Chinese culture and Western culture helps students have a deep understanding of their own culture as well as raise their awareness on cultural differences just after learning lesson 1, pop music and lesson 2 Beijing opera.
Part 2. Teaching Objectives
According to five-dimensional?teaching?goals, five small parts are included here.
?Language Focus:
In this lesson, the students will learn and master the following words and phrases: pianist, musician, talent, identity, in some ways, at times and etc.
?Language Skills:
In this period, the students will be guided to use predicting, skimming and scanning skills to obtain and analyze the needed information. And be able to practise understanding difficult words in a reading context using syntactic and semantic clues.
?Learning Strategies:
1. Cognitive Strategy: In this period, with the help of the understanding questions, students will be able to get their understanding on this context, on what Kong has done.
2. Communication Strategy: In this period, the students will be guided to express their own opinions about how they understand Kong and Chinese culture and Western culture.
3. Adjusting and Controlling Strategy: The students will have chances to make self-assessment by understanding the context and giving their opinions on “culture”.
? Affection:
Students be able to understand the importance of knowing and loving their own culture and be proud of the good ones.
? Culture:
Students will be inspired to have a deep understanding of their own culture as well as raise their awareness on cultural differences.
Part 3 Teaching Important Points and Difficult Points
Students be able to work out the meaning of the new words from the context and be able to practise the vocabulary relating to music.
2. Students be able to have a deep understanding of their own culture and be aware of cultural differences.
3. The topic “Kong Xiangdong” or “folk” may be far away from the students’ daily life. It could be hard to attract students’ attention and for them to make self-assessment.

Two methods will be applied into this class,TBLT and PAD class.
TBLT means task based language teaching.
