Step l: Lead in

1. play a song by famous singer Jay Chou

Purpose: 1. Interest all the students

2. Show a picture of Jay Chou and ask students to say something about him. Then combine the two sentences.

We all like Jay Chou who /that sings the song.

We all like the song that/which Jay Chou sings.

We all like the song whose singer is Jay Chou .

Step2: Learn the concept

定语从句的相关概念

在复合句中,修饰名词或代词的从句叫定语从句。被修饰的词叫先行词,连接先行词和从句的叫关系词。关系词分为关系代词和关系副词两种。

The girl who is brave and clever is Mary.

Purpose: introduce basic elements of the attributive clause using the sentence above.

Step3: Ask students to do exercises.

Purpose: deeper understand the elements of the attributive clause

Step4: explain to the students the relationship between antecedents and relative pronouns using sentences.

Step5: explain the usages of relative pronouns in the attributive clause

关系代词是用来指代先行词是人或物的词。引导定语从句的关系代词有 。that既可指 也可指 ,在定语从句中可作 或 ,作宾语时可省略;which仅指 , 在定语从句中作 或 ,作宾语时可省略;who指 ,在定语从句中作 或 ,作宾语时可省略;whom指 ,在从句中作宾语,可省略;whose指 或 ,在从句中作 。

Purpose: let students understand the function of relative pronouns in the attributive clause
