Background :
The Vikings were a group of Scandinavian people who sailed in ships to attack areas along the coast of northern and western Europe from the 8th to 11th centuries. Eric the Red was a Viking explorer, who was the first European in Greenland . He led a group of colonists to Greenland in 986.
Teaching procedures :
Warm -up
Step 1. Teacher asks students to look at the photos ,listening and identifying the photos of the sea.
Step 2.Students do Ex2 on page 7,brainstorming the sea activities.
Swimming ,boating, water skiing , surfing, sailing, fishing, scuba diving …
Step 3. Besides these sports at sea, people can also make a voyage .In ancient times, there were a group of people who made it to America.
Pre-reading
Step 4. Teacher asks students to look at a map and discuss who arrived in America first, and introduces the basic information about the Vikings. Students learn to pronounce the place names.
While-reading
Step5. First reading: Students skim the text and match the headings with the paragraphs.
