T: Good afternoon, class. Last class we have learned the importance of protecting the sea. Today we’ll learn more about the sea.
Show the picture of the underwater world and invite students to talk about their feeling at the sight of the picture.
S: It’s beautiful and colorful...
T: Today we’ll pay a visit to the underwater world. We’ll see different kinds of sea creatures here.
Step II. Pre-reading
Activity one: Getting familiar with sea animals.
Show some pictures of sea creatures and invite students to speak out the names of these sea creatures.( polar bear, dolphin, seal, whale, coral, crab, shark, sea anemone, seaturtle, seahorse, squid, starfish, jellyfish)
Show some information to enable students to get to know some strange fish in the underwater world.
Which fish uses a light to attract food? (Anglerfish)
Which fish can make a loud noise ? (Toadfish)
What kind of fish appear to fly in the water? (Manta Rays)
Which are the smallest fish in the world? (Goby)
T: Where can you see all sea creatures?
S: I can find these sea creatures in the sea or at the aquarium.
Activity two: Learning the function of the brochure.
T: Look at the pictures on page12 and guess what kind of the text it is.
S: It’s a brochure.
