Ideas of designing
本节课的设计从学生的兴趣爱好、认识水平、学习特点、生活体验及心理特点出发,贯彻高中新课程以人为本和全面发展的理念,强调形成积极主动的学习态度,使获得知识与技能的过程同时成为学会学习的过程。借助多媒体进行教学,通过视频、图片导入话题,激活背景知识;读中活动通过skimming, scanning, learning and using vocabulary in context 等活动理解课文,获取必要信息,完成表格(filling in the table)以及词汇的学习(vocabulary learning)等任务。
四、Teaching Aims:
1. Knowledge and skills
(1)To learn the following words and expressions: seal, penguin, polar bear, dolphin, whale, coral, feed, attract, up- to –date, watch out, every two hours, twice as loud as, the sooner the better…
(2) To practise using the reading strategies Skimming (for a general idea)and Scanning(for specific information).
(3) To get familiar with the contents of the text and practice using sea animal vocabulary.
2. Process and methods
Finish the above tasks through the task-based activities. Help students form the habit of cooperating with each other by working in pairs.
3. Emotion, attitude and values
Students can learn more about sea animals and their benefits in a friendly, relaxing and cheerful atmosphere, and it can arouse their awareness of protecting sea animals.

1. How to master the text and the new words well.
2. How to get familiar with descriptive texts using the reading strategies.

StepⅠ Warm up and Lead-in (12minutes)
Show students a short video Finding Nemo(海底总动员),
Questions: Have you seen the film before? What is it about?
Offer some sea creatures’ pictures for the students to enjoy.
Questions: How do you like dolphin (penguin/coral reef/ seal /toadfish/white shark/angler fish…)?
Key words: cute, friendly, lovely, beautiful, ugly, small, fierce, dangerous…
Discussion: What benefits can the sea creatures bring?
Suggested answers: food supply, nutrition (can be good for our health and cure some disease), eco-balance, entertainment…
