《Lesson 4 Journey to the Antarctic》教案优质课下载
The topic of the text is the Antarctic exploration. The text introduces the race to the South Pole between Scott from Britain and Amundsen from Norway and describes Scott’s return journey after losing the race. While describing Scott’s return journey, Scott’s diary was excerpted in the text to express these explorers’ extraordinary courage and spirit when facing difficulties and death. By learning this text, students will admire and respect the sacrifice of explorers and meanwhile students should know the importance of being well prepared.
Analysis of students:
By learning Unit 7 and the first three lessons of Unit 8, students have read the stories of Chinese and foreign explorers. What the students have learned previously can make good preparations for learning the new lesson in the topic, vocabulary and emotions.
II.Teaching objectives:
By the end of this period, the students will be able to
obtain and collect general information of two expeditions by the pictures , titles and text;
summarize and state the journey to the South Pole and return journey of two expeditions, especially the difficulties that Scott expedition encountered;
infer excellent qualities of explorers and illustrate it with examples;
reflect on Scott’s journeys to cultivate the quality of critical thinking;
work out the meanings of the words from the context.
III. Teaching focus and difficulties:
Focus: collect factual information of two expeditions, state the journeys and summarize the explorers’ spirit.
Difficulties: infer and illustrate explorers’ spirit with factual information; achieve a deep understanding of the spirit of adventure.
