Greeting: Hello! Boys and girls! Since this is the last class this morning? Are you hungry now? Do you always enjoy your lunch at the canteen? We’ll notice there is also TVs to watch.
Ask and answer:
T: Are you curious about the world? How do you know the new things?
S: By watching news
S: By listening to radios
S: By reading newspapers...
Then show pictures of different ways to obtain news.
Pre-reading
Why to read
Introduce the fact that in the past days, reading newspapers once was a lifestyle of the English, especially the gentleman and the ladies. Lead students to think about “why to read”.
What to read
Ask two questions - which newspapers do you know or often read? What can we usually get from newspapers? Lead students to think about “what to read” .
While-reading
Task 1 Read headlines
Teacher ask: While reading newspapers, how can we easily find the main idea from the news? Lead students to go through the headline.
Lead students to read the three newspaper articles in textbook and match them with the headlines.
