Analysis of Students:
Due to a variety of reasons, students are at different levels of English. Some students have a good knowledge of English and take an active part in English; while others show less interest in English and have some difficulties with it. Thus, a variety of class activities and tasks should be designed so as to help arouse and keep students’ interest in the English learning.
Teaching Objectives:
By the end of the class, students will be developed:
(1) to master some important words and expressions concerning the topic;
(2) to get to know more about Britain and practise giving advice on visiting Britain;
(3) to develop ability in skimming for the main idea and scanning for specific information;
(4) to have a better understanding of culture shock and show respect for cultural difference;
(5)to learn to cooperate with others and show more interest in English learning.
Teaching Important and Difficult Points
1. To train students’ ability in reading for the main idea and details and further improve students’ reading efficiency;
2. To learn more about Britain and practice giving advice on visiting Britain.

Step I. Warm-up (8 min)
Watch a short video and get students involved in the following discussion.
Questions:
1). What are they talking about?
2). How many examples are given ? What are they ?
2. Look at the pictures that describe some surprising and confusing things that James and Ryan have met while they are living in China. Then show students the definition of “culture shock”.
