Brain storming: show the pictures on the PowerPoint and let the students answer the name of the pictures. And the topic will be led in by the national flower of Britain -----rose.Design information connection, and let students brain storm. Then focus on the United Kingdom.
Step2 Warm-up
Warm-up 1: ask the sts to finish about a quiz about Britain to show their common sense about this country.
Warm-up 2: by showing some pictures of the most world famous sites of Britain to lead sts to have a virtual visit to the country for making them know the country more vividly. Lead to the topic of this lesson through pictures and questions and to stimulate students’ interests.
Step3 Questioning The above warm-up part will lead in to the phrase ----- “culture shock” by the question “Is that easy to travel or live in another country?”.To enable students to understand “What is culture shock?”
Step4: Pre-reading
1.Lead the sts the famous saying “ when you are in Rome, do as the Romans do”.
2. Show more about British cultures, for example , “the three don’ts in Britain” and the different cultural points between Britain and China.Students can know how to deal with culture shock and know more about British culture. And by this , it will provide a background information for sts to understand Lesson 1better.
Step5: Review
Divide sts into 4 groups to answer some questions.1 point for each question.
To check the sts understanding of the whole part and help sts to memorize those basic information about Britain and arouse sts’ interest in remembering it.
Step6 Homework
1.Preview Lesson 1 and finish the exercise2 on P36.
2. Pair work: to make a dialogue concerning what is learned today about Britain in pairs.To train the student’s speaking abilities and put what they’ve learned into use. Mainly to consolidate the content.
