Step 1 Lead in (4 mins)
1) Ask students three questions one by one:
As a teenager, if you got an enormous and beautiful pearl, what would you do with it?
Suppose you are an adult, if you got an enormous and beautiful pearl, what would you do with it?
If you were a very poor person with a family to support, what would you do with the pearl?
2) Show a trailer of The Pearl.
Step 2 Skimming (5mins)
Read the story quickly and answer these questions.
What are the main characters’ name?
Is this family poor or rich?
What happened to Kino’s son?
