Intentions

Part One: Pre-Reading

Step 1

Ask the Ss their first impressions of the teacher as well as the two men.

引入文章主题,第一印象可能存在误导性,为故事铺垫。

Part Two: Fast Reading

Step 1

Read only the first part of the story. Predict what will happen in the end. Ask Ss how did they get the answers. Introduce “the turning point” to Ss.

训练学生阅读中的推测技能,学会“read between the lines”。

Step 2

Read the rest of the story and summarize the main idea according to the basic elements of a story: who, when, where, what. Fill in exercise 2 on the handout.

让学生根据故事的5W要素初步理解整个故事梗概。

Step 3

Divide the story into three parts.

Match each part with its main idea.

让学生对篇章结构、各部分大意有初步的感知。

Part Three: Intensive Reading

Step 1

Tell Ss the function of linking words.

Review the linking words Ss have learned before.

回顾学过的篇章衔接词,为下一活动“找出本文的衔接过渡词”做铺垫,搭建脚手架降低难度。

Step 2

Find out the similar linking words or sentences that are used to describe/develop this story.

Fill in the table of Task 1.

进一步让学生关注本故事的发展脉络衔接词。为口语输出(复述故事)铺垫。
