To practise reading for prediction and details such as information for numbers and people.
To be able to tell a story about a disaster .
四．教学重点
Get Ss to know about different kinds of stories.
Learn and master the following words ang phrases: buried, event, preserve, capsule, tremble, particularly, loss, awesome, rewind, authentic, architecture
volcanic eruption, block out, in a way, on one’s side, split up, pay rise
Enable Ss to understand the text better.

Some students may have difficulty in finishing all the tasks in limited time.
六．教学方法:
1.Discussion before reading to make Ss learn more about Pompeii.
2.Fast reading to get the general idea of the text.
3.Careful reading to get the detailed information.
Individual pair or group work to make every student take an active part in the activities in class.
