Teaching procedures
Step1. Lead- in
Lead in the topic by a famous saying by Deng Xiaoping-- Science and Technology is the first productivity .
Step2 Pre-reading
1.ask Ss to tell some of the famous pioneers of science of the 20th century and their scientific breakthroughs .
2.After Ss’ sharing of their opinions ,go through the famous pioneers of science mentioned in the text .
Step3. While reading
Match the discoveries with how they were discovered (fast reading)
Read the text again and carefully to tell whether some statements true or false or there is no information.( careful reading)
Step4 Post reading /Discussion
It is predicted that there will be some scientific breakthroughs in the 21st century. What do you think will these scientific breakthroughs and how will they influence our life? Have a discussion and voice your opinion.
Possible answers
1. We’ll crack the genetic code and conquer cancer.
2. We'll make greater breakthroughs in artificial intelligence . For example , computers or robots will be able to figure out a scheme which will be both phycically and mentally beneficial to us . The computers or robots will prevent us from being too tired in both body and mind after assessing our health.
3. We’ll find a new home in space and we can travel between our new home and former home---the earth.
