Important and difficult points in teaching:

While reporting news, students may be unwilling to do the task because of a lack of confidence. The teacher should help students to gain confidence;

To keep students well informed of the major events of space exploration in human history.

Teaching procedure:

Activities Intentions

Step 1

Leading inHave a free talk about flying dreams of students themselves and those of ancient China and foreign countries.Get ready for class.Students do some quizzes about major events of space exploration in human history.Motivate students’ interest and get them familiar with the topic they will hear in the listening task.

Step 2

ReadingStudents read Getting The “Scoop” for key words of the features of news .Check students’ understanding about requirements of news.Students look for information about the jobs of different pressmen.Keep students informed of different job positions and the tasks involved in the process of writing and printing news.Students put statements about the writing and printing process of an article in order.Students get to know the writing and printing process of an article and get prepared for the newspaper making task.

Step 3

Listening

&

SpeakingStudents summarize the process of an interview according to their former study and discuss in groups to prepare questions for the interview.Review knowledge attained previously and get ready for the speaking task.Several students cooperate with each other to hold a news conference. The other students listen and fill in the table about content of the press conference.Students practice their listening skills.

Step 4

Writing

&

SpeakingStudents read a piece of VOA News and identify the structure of news reported on TV.Students get ready for the writing task.Students write a news report on the news conference in groups .Train students’ writing skills.Students report their news to the class.The teacher check the accuracy of their news.Students experience the feeling of being a reporter and practice speaking skills.

Step 5

ProductionStudents review the structure of the news learnt in Module 4 and tell the differences between news reported on TV and news printed in newspapers. Students get clear about the differences

between news reported on TV and news

printed in newspapers.

Students turn the news they wrote in the former task into news printed in newspapers and design their own newspapers.Train students’ manipulative ? ability .Students share their newspapers with classmates.Students share their fruits and happiness.Step 6
