Teaching important points:

The use of all kinds of words in the question style.

Teaching facilities:

Microsoft Media and blackboard.

Teaching procedures:

Step1: Lead-in

Ask the students what they think about Grammar Filling. Is it very difficult or very easy? Although they have done a lot of exercises, most of them still have difficulty getting full marks. If they can get high marks in this part, it’s certain that it will be of great benefit. So we’ll focus on this part and try to give the students more tips to help them to get as high marks as they can.

Step2: Presentation

1. Analyze the key points of this part with the students, helping them to pay more attention to the frequently tested points.

2. Give the students some exercises from the two different aspects: filling in blanks with no words given and filling in blanks with words given. Ask them to fill in the blanks one by one and analyze the grammar points at the same time.

(1). Fill in the blanks with no words given:

In this case, the students should try to grasp the meaning of the sentence and analyze the sentence constituent to fill in the proper words. Usually, the students should use pronouns、propositions、conjunctions、articles、adverbs and so on.

(2). Fill in the blanks with given words :

a. Predicate verbs: When a verb is used as predicate, the students should pay attention to its tense、voice、subject-verb concord and mood. Sometimes, it is a fixed sentence pattern.

b. Non-finite verbs: Using “know” as an example, teacher ask the students to fill in the blanks with its proper forms, such as using it as subject or adverbial to remind the students to pay attention to the different forms of non-finite verbs: doing、to do and done.

(3). Pay attention to the inflections:

a. We usually use a noun when it is used as subject、object or modified by a possessive pronoun、a demonstrative pronoun or an article.

b. We should change the forms of pronouns according to the meaning or the sentence constituent.

c. We usually use an adjective as predicative、attribute or complement.

d. We usually use an adverb to modify an adjective、a verb、an adverb or even a whole sentence.

e. When we use an adjective or an adverb, we should pay attention to the change of its comparative and superlative degree.

f. Sometimes, we should convert the meaning of the given word according to the sentence. For example, we always use negative prefixes or negative suffixes, such as un, in, dis or less and etc.

3. Present to the students some words such as argument、explanation or guidance、curiosity and etc, most of which are easily mistaken, hoping that they can pay more attention to the vocabulary and make sure they spell them correctly.

4. Give the students a summary to focus on when they are doing this exercise. Only when they combine the context with the grammar can they get high marks in this part. They should analyze the sentence based on the meaning of the sentence and figure out its logic. As for the words, the meaning and parts of speech should be emphasized.

Step3: Summary
