本节课所上课的班级为理科重点班，学生的英语基础相较于普通班的学生更好点，所以可以进行全英授课，但因为班里也有部分学生基础不够扎实，阅读能力不够，在阅读任务适当降低难度。鉴于平时学生在课堂上输出环节较少，将积极鼓励学生参与，大胆开口说英语。

Step 1 Warming up.

Ask the students to watch the video and describe which state of the USA is mentioned in the video.

Then show some pictures of well-known places in California and ask students to name them.

Group work: look at the map of the USA with your group. Write on the map the names of as many of the following as you can. C

Answer key:

Ocean on the east coast: Atlantic Ocean

Ocean on the west coast: Pacific Ocean

Country to the north of USA: Canada

Country to the south of USA: Mexico

Mountain range in the west: Rocky Mountains

Great Lakes: Superior, Michigan, Huron, Erie and Ontario

Longest river in the USA: Mississippi River

Some important cities: New York, Washington D C, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New Orleans
