1. Knowledge aims: by the end of the lesson, students will be able to

1). Read and master the text about natural disasters to get some detailed information and specific facts.

2). Finish a gap-filling task and know different meanings and uses of the same word.

Ability aims:

1). Continue to train Ss’ skimming ability to get the general idea and their scanning ability to get the needed information and specific facts..

2). Train Ss’ abilities of studying by themselves and cooperating, and using English to express their ideas.

3. Moral education aim:

Let them know the power and danger of natural disasters, and know the importance of environmental protection.

Teaching Important & Difficult Points

1). How to arouse students’ interest in the text and finish all the tasks effectively.

2). How to make students of different levels to read the text and finish the tasks efficiently by themselves and cooperation.

3). Then students can use their own words to express their own ideas.

Teaching Procedures

Step I. Warm -up & Lead-in（5 minutes）:

1. Greet the whole class and make students know what they will learn and do in this lesson. Read all the new words in this lesson first and then show pictures of different natural disasters. Discuss the topic together with students.

Step II. Reading for information: skimming & scanning (4+6 minutes)

1. Give students 3 minutes to skim the passage quickly and finish the first task------get the general idea of this text.

2. Scanning: Give students 5 minutes to read the text silently again, and finish the gap -filling task.

Step III. Reading for Comprehension (10 minutes)
