Teaching procedures:
Step 1. Warm-up
(1) Show some pictures about conflict;
(2) Explain the new words and phrases;
(3) Introduce some kinds of conflicts;
(4) Play the audio once and see if students can match the stories and photos.
(5) Finish exercise 2 and review the key words.
Step 2. Before-reading
(1) Ask students to read the title and the first paragraph of the first newspaper report and find out the information.
(2) Ask students to read the title and the first paragraph of the second newspaper report and find out the key information.
Step 3. While-reading
(1) Listen to the audio of the first newspaper report and do some True or False questions.
(2) Listen to the audio of the second newspaper report and answer some questions.
Step 4. After-reading
(1) Ask students this question: ”If you had such a neighbor, what would you say or do?”
(2) Pair work: students try to describe their own experience of conflict in English to each other.
(3) Invite one or two students to share his or her own experience with the class.
