Greeting with students.

Ask them some questions:

1.Do you like toys?

2.What’s your favorite toy?

Have a free talk about these questions:

1.How do you feel about those toys you played with when you were young?

2.Where are they now?

Let students think about those questions and lead in yard sale.

Step 2:Pre-reading

Show students some pictures about yard sale in the ppt. Introduce some details about yard sale. For example ,there are some boxes glasses and furniture in the picture. There is a free typewriter on the desk. If others need it, they can take it away. Because the host does not need it any more.

Ask students some questions about yard sale:

1.When do people usually have yard sales?

2.Why are the sales called “yard sales”?

3.What kinds of things do people sell in a yard sale?

4.Why do people like to buy things in a yard sale?

Show them some information about yard sale in Chinese. Let them read it by themselves for one minute.

Step 3:while-reading

Let students skim 3a for 3 minutes and think about what his family is going to sell at the yard sale

Ask two students to show their answer. And check the answer with other students.

After that, students have 6 minutes to read the article again and answer the questions in 3b:

1. Why did they decide to have a yard sale?

2. What do they want to do with the money from the sale?

3. Why does the son want to keep his train and railway set?

4. How can the old toys be useful again?

5. Have you ever thought about having a yard sale to sell your things? What would you do with the money you raise?

Then check the answers with their partners again. And ask students to read answers. And students check the answers togrther.

Step4: Post-reading

Class work.

Let students think about these questions. And have a conversations with their partners.
