Teaching procedures:

Step1. Lead-in:

Show a composition involving many mistakes to the whole class. Let them realize as long as they develop their ability to correct mistakes in essays, they can write well. Elicit the topic of this period.

Step2. Warm up:

Students are required to correct the errors in three sentences on the screen. And introduce some basic information about proof reading to them.

Students get to learn common mistakes in proof reading.

Step3. Practice:

Give several groups of sentences to the students. They need to decide if there are any mistakes in those sentences first, and then correct them. Encourage students to discuss with their deskmates if they have any difficult.

Check their answers and show some tips to them.

Step4. Consolidation:

Get students to pay attention to the composition shown on the screen. Tell students there are ten errors in all and let them find and correct.

Step5. Benefits from proof reading

Reflection:

This period aims to draw students’ attention to common mistakes in proof reading and get them to learn how to correct errors. But I find some students didn’t realize they should put what they’ve learnt into their own compositions and improve their writing quality. So in the future teaching , I plan to take measures to raise students’ awareness of avoiding mistakes in their compositions.
