Step 1 Lead-in:
1.Enjoy the song —Auld Lang Syne
2 .Words review
3 .Ask students some questions:
1) Do you think friends are important to us? Why do you think so?
2.)Do you have any good friends? What do you think of them?
Step 2.Pre-reading:
Observe the text carefully to find out:
how many parts it contains
what the two parts are about
It contains two parts. One part is the background knowledge about Anne and her diary and the other is one page of Anne’s diary.
Step 3.Reading:
1. Try to guess what Anne’s friend is and what the passage is about by reading the title and having a quick at the pictures in this passage without reading it.
2. Skimming the first two paragraphs to confirm your guessing.
3.Skim Passage A and try to find when, where and who did the story happen?
4.Scanning: try to find the following questions’ why
1) Anne kept a diary because
2) She felt very lonely because
3) They had to hide because
4) Anne named her diary Kitty because
5. What did Anne say about keeping a diary?
6. How long had Anne stayed in the hiding place when she wrote this diary?
7. What were her deepest feelings and thoughts?
