Contents: Appreciate a poem: Love and Friendship
Analysis of the teaching material and students
Just like a journey, before teaching, teachers should consider where the learner is right now, where the learner is going and how to get there.In order to know where the learner is right now, we teachers should analyze the material and students carefully.
As for this class, the selected reading material is taken from NSEFC Book 1 Unit 1 Workbook. It’s a poem taken from the last part of the workbook---Project. The poem, Love and Friendship, written by Emily Bronte, is intended to develop the theme of this unit---Friendship, and can further students’ understanding of friendship. The topic is interesting and thought-provoking.
As for the students, they are fresh and willing to cooperate in the class. They are eager to explore more about love and friendship.

Teaching procedures:
Step 1. Lead-in to Greet students
Step 2. Poems Competition and present students with rose and holly
In this step, the teacher first introduce some pictures of rose and holly, and then ask students to compete to speak out the names of different poems. The winners will be awarded the rose or holly according to their preference.
Step 3. Show students what is imagery
According to the poems mentioned above, ask students to consciously understand what is imagery and according, the students are guided to think about the meaning conveyed by the imagery. And then lead them to the poem.
