The analysis of learning condition

Students are in Grade 1. Most of them are from villages and poor at English. They have already acquired a certain amount of words and expressions which lay the foundation for the understanding of the passage .Though they have learned English for several years, they are still in lack of the background knowledge of the English, such as the development of English, why English changed over time, etc. What’s more, most students can not employ different kinds of reading skills to understand the text freely.

Teaching Procedures:

Step 1 Greetings

Step 2 Lead-in

Enjoy two videos and know the differences between British English and American English.

Step 3 Fast-reading

Prediction: Read the title “the road to modern English” and predict what the passage is mainly about?

Scan the text to find or make out a key sentence for each paragraph.

Step 4 Detailed Reading

1. Decide whether the statements are True (T) or false (F) according to the passage. (Ex. 1 on Page 10)

2. Fill in the blanks with proper words according to the text. (The exercise is on the screen.)

Step 5 Discussion

Why do you think people in China want to learn English?

The reasons why people in China want to learn English are as followings: one is that…; another one is that…

Step 6 Summary and Homework

Give a short summary of the passage.

Homework: 1. According to the discussion, write a composition about why people in China want to learn English .

2. Underline the new words and expressions, difficult sentences in the passage.
