学情分析：高一的学生进校没有多久，彼此还不是很熟悉，对曼德拉也不太了解，不过他们还是懂得一些描写伟人的形容词。语言的输出对于我们这所普通高中的学生来说，有一定的难度，但也有部分学生英语基础相对较好，应此在教学中要发挥这些尖子生的领头羊作用，让他们带动其他学生学习，互帮互助。

教学目标：1. Enable the students to understand Elias’story.

2. Help the students to learn the qualities of Mandela as a great person.

3. Improve the reading skills such as Scanning, skimming, word-guessing, summarizing

4. learn some new words in the text.

教学重点：Help the Ss know how to describe a great person.

教学难点：Enable the students to describe a great person with the order of time.

教学方法：Scanning, skimming, word-guessing, summarizing

教具准备: A recorder, a projector and some slides.

教学过程：

Step1. Warming up

Watch a short video to learn something about Nelson Mandela and learn some adjectives to describe a great person.

T: Do you know something about Nelson Mandela ?

Ss: No.

T: Let’s watch a short video to learn something about Nelson Mandela. Mandela is a modern hero, but is he a great person ? What makes a great person ?

Ss: A great person is someone who devotes his or her life to helping others.

（设计说明： 通过观看一段曼德拉的视频帮助学生了解曼德拉的一些基本情况， 从而引出课文主题。 ）

Task1. Learn some adjectives to describe a great person. After learning the text, please tell me what adjectives can be used to describe Nelson Mandela’s quality.

（设计说明：通过头脑风暴的形式帮助学生迅速把描写伟人需要的形容词复习和学习，同时通过近义词和反义词的设计帮助学习记忆单词，从而为学生学完这篇课文后能够用这些形容词描写曼德拉的品质做铺垫）
