学情分析:高一的学生进校没有多久,彼此还不是很熟悉,对曼德拉也不太了解,不过他们还是懂得一些描写伟人的形容词。语言的输出对于我们这所普通高中的学生来说,有一定的难度,但也有部分学生英语基础相对较好,应此在教学中要发挥这些尖子生的领头羊作用,让他们带动其他学生学习,互帮互助。
教学目标:1. Enable the students to understand Elias’story.
2. Help the students to learn the qualities of Mandela as a great person.
3. Improve the reading skills such as Scanning, skimming, word-guessing, summarizing
4. learn some new words in the text.
教学重点:Help the Ss know how to describe a great person.
教学难点:Enable the students to describe a great person with the order of time.

教具准备: A recorder, a projector and some slides.
教学过程:
Step1. Warming up
Watch a short video to learn something about Nelson Mandela and learn some adjectives to describe a great person.
T: Do you know something about Nelson Mandela ?
Ss: No.
T: Let’s watch a short video to learn something about Nelson Mandela. Mandela is a modern hero, but is he a great person ? What makes a great person ?
Ss: A great person is someone who devotes his or her life to helping others.
(设计说明: 通过观看一段曼德拉的视频帮助学生了解曼德拉的一些基本情况, 从而引出课文主题。 )
Task1. Learn some adjectives to describe a great person. After learning the text, please tell me what adjectives can be used to describe Nelson Mandela’s quality.
