According to the New Standard Curriculum and the New Syllabus, students in senior middle school are supposed to develop several abilities in learning English. Students’ ability of using English in different ways should be improved, including gathering information, dealing with problems, analyzing problems, and solving problems. Also they should be able to think and express their thoughts in English. While studying, they ought to be given necessary and enough choices and opportunities. The design is intended to help the students to achieve the aims required in the New Standard Curriculum and the New Syllabus possibly.

Analysis Of The Teaching Material

The teaching content is from New Senior English for China ,Module 3 unit 5 Canada ---the true north, which is about two girls’ trip across Canada. This is the 4th period in the unit, about reading speaking and writing. In this period students are going to read about the latter part of the trip across Canada, talk about impressive things or places during their trip, and write about impressive things or places in the trip.

Analysis of Students

My students, senior one, mostly come from countryside. So, many of them have limited knowledge about Canada and its cities. And the language material they can use to introduce things or places in their trip is limited, too. Thus, it is important and necessary for the teacher to offer help with language and guidance in thinking.

Teaching Aims

Based on the design concept and Analysis of the teaching material, the following aims are going to be fulfilled.

Knowledge Aims

Students will know more about Canada and its cities.

Students will learn some words and useful expressions about countries and cities.

Students will learn how to describe impressive things or places in their trip.

Ability Aims

Improve students’ ability of gathering information by reading.

Improve students’ ability of thinking and expressing thoughts by talking in pairs or groups and writing.

Improve students’ ability of writing by writing a passage about things or places in the trip.

Emotional Aims

Develop students’ spirit in cooperation and improve their ability of cooperation.

Widen their horizon to learn about the world.

Get them to love the country and love life.

Important Points Of Teaching
