A Lesson Design of The Return Of The Milu Deer
I. Analysis of the Teaching Material
This passage is an introduction to an endangered animal---the Milu deer. It introduces the basic information, the disappearance and the return of Milu deer, which aims to draw more attention to protecting them and call for more cooperation among countries to protect the Milu Deer as well as the wild animals. The text in the workbook is much easier for the students to read and understand and is suitable for them to have a talk on wildlife protection.
II. Analysis of the Students
According to the Standards of English Curriculum, the overall development of the students is the most important concerns, among which speaking contributes a lot. Therefore, this lesson focuses on their ability of information processing, group cooperation and speech-making on how to protect the animals.
III. Teaching objectives:
Get the students to know something about Milu deer.
Have the students talk about the endangered animals, the reasons for their disappearance and how to protect them.
IV. Teaching important points:
1. The condition of the Milu deer.
Talking on the endangered animals.
V. Teaching procedures:
Step one---warming up
Show some pictures of Cemetery of the animals that have died out in the world which was taken in the Milu Deer Park in Beijing. And ask the students to guess what it is.
The animals before the hand have died out and the ones behind the hand are dying out. The hand stands for measures that have been taken by human beings to prevent the disappearing of the endangered animals.
Ask the students to name some animals that are dying out, such as Panda, Elephant, the Northeastern tiger, Antelope, etc.
Discussion: Why are these animals dying out?
The environment is badly polluted and they lost their home.
They have no enough food.
Too much hunting, people hunt them for their meat, fur and skin.
Weather change---dinosaur & penguin

Purpose: to introduce the topic of wildlife protection and let the students talk on this topic.
