T:This lesson we will learn something about a band---The Monkees
Step2. Presentation
Show the objective on the screen and ask the students to read them.
Tell students that in this lesson we will also practise the four skills of learning English:Listening、Speaking、Reading and speaking.
Step3. Daily report
It is one student’s turn to give the whole class the daily report. The teacher give a summary.
Step4. Listening
Play the tape of the reading passage for students to listen to help them correct their pronunciation.
Step5. Reading
Skimming
Ask the students to read the passage loudly and Match the main ideas and the paragraphs on the screen and the check their answers.
Scanning
. Ask the students to read the passage and choose the best answer on the screen and then check their answers.
. Ask the students to read the passage and answer the questions:Why do people want to be part of a band as a singer or musician? How do people form a band?How did the Monkees develop into a real band? Check their answers and give them the reference answer to make sure they understand the passage clearly.
. Ask students to read the passage and complete a short passage with proper words. Then check their answers.
Step6. Discussion
Ask students to work in groups and discuss the two questions:How do you understand the meaning of the title-----THE BAND THAT WASN'T? What is your favorite band?Why? Then ask some groups to report their results.
Homework and sharing
Ask the students to write a short passage about your favorite band.
