Content: Warming up, pre-reading and reading
Analysis:Warming up: Many kinds of music are represented here on both the tape and in the photos. This part is spark students’ interest of learning the text.
Reading: It’s an introduction to Western popular music. The diversity questions of designing are to cultivate the students’ thinking capacity.

Goals:1. Learn new words and phrases related to different styles of music.
2. Enable the Ss to understand the details about the passage The Band that Wasn’t.
3. Help the Ss to sum up the main idea of each paragraph and master the reading skill——scanning, skimming, careful reading, ect.
Analysis:Skimming: the first question requires students to look through the text as soon as possible and catch the main idea at the same time.
Scanning & careful reading: further reading can improve students the ability of catching important information, enlarging vocabulary and enriching their knowledge.
