Warming-up and Reading I

Part 1. The Analysis of the Teaching Material

This unit talks about festivals of many kinds in different parts of the world.

This is the first period of this unit.The reading briefly describes four different kinds of festivals. By studying of this unit, we’ll enable students to know more about different kinds of festivals around the world, and the ways people celebrate them. As festival is closely related to our daily life, it is easy to arouse student’s interest in learning this text. At the same time, Reading skills and speaking training are designed around the text.

Part 2. The Analysis of Students

The students are from grade 1 in senior high school. As high school students, they have achieved certain English level and they have the ability to get the basic idea of the reading. But they may not know how to finish reading in a certain time on exam, so give some guidance on it. Moreover, Most students are lack of confidence. So encourage students to practice, participate, and cooperate in the classroom activities.

Part 3. Teaching Aims

Knowledge Aims:

The Ss can understand the content of lesson, learn about festivals around the world and the ways people celebrate them.

Ability Aims:

(1) To help students to have a better understanding of the reading passage by using different reading skills.

(2) To develop the Ss’ abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Emotional Aims:

(1)Make the Ss know about the foreign festivals, and respect other countries’ custom. Put the moral education in the process of study.

(2)Develop students’ sense of cooperative learning.

Par 4. Teaching Important and Difficult Points

Teaching Important Points:

(1)Make the students to know something about festivals around the world and how people celebrate these festivals.

(2) To improve students’?reading?skills.

Teaching Difficult Points:

How to make the students understand the text better.

How to express their ideas fluently in English.

Part 5. Teaching Methods and Teaching Aids

Teaching Methods:

According to the modern perception theories and social intercourse teaching theories, I adopts task-based teaching, cooperate method and discussion method in my teaching.
