Analysis of the text

The topic of this unit is great women. Students should be familiar with the good qualities of great people. After learning the text, students should learn from the great people. As this class is focused on reading, reading skill should be trained in a proper way. According to the New Curriculum Standard, textbooks should be properly used and even rearranged to meet the actual conditions. Besides, necessary guidance is required for students.

Adaptation of the text

The warming-up part presents some adjectives to describe people, and the pre-reading part lists six people, great or famous. In order to combine the two and develop a new activity which can meet the requirement of time and introduce the topic naturally, I present the six people first and describe them with adjectives. Thus, the first part of the class can be well-organised.

Exercise Three on Page 35 is adopted to make it clear for students to focus on the first two paragraphs for related information. Meanwhile, some more information is added to the chart.
