Linguistic ability
Limited vocabulary and weak grammar are great blocks in comprehending the reading passage and extracting information from the given passage. The number of words and the ability to analyze sentence structure students gain determines the difficulty and complexity of the material they can read and understand.
2.2 Reading habits
Some poor habits, such as, reading aloud word after word, looking back at the previous lines, stopping to turn to a dictionary or the word list when coming across new words, to a relatively large extent, may accounts for the students’ poor reading performance in tests.
2.3 Motivation
Many students read English articles for the sake of passing exams, otherwise, they seldom read any authentic English materials. Unless some inspiring measures are taken, they will not be keen on reading.
