Help students form the writing strategies
Train interactive writing by students’ group activities.
Teaching important and difficult points:
Planning and organizing ideas for writing.
Learn how to catch the paragraph’s main idea in order to keep a writer’s purpose alive .
Learn to gain the unity by cutting out any thoughts that do not fit in with a paragraph’s controlling idea.
Teaching procedures:
Step 1. Eliciting questions:
In unit1 we talked about Jane Goodall. In unit2 we talked about Yuan Longping. They are all great people. So today we need to write about some people, whom we admire. Thus first please think about one question: when we write a person, what do we usually write? Or what do you usually write in the first paragraph and then what again?
Step 2. Pre-writing : organizing idea
Think about one person you admire
(maybe the great scientists like Yuan Longping, maybe a famous star you like, maybe some ordinary people like your father, your mother,or even your classmate. Everyone is OK.)(Today my example is Jane Goodall.)
The 1st paragraph:
The 1st sentence:
1. Write the introduction of this person
(e.g. Jane is a great scientist.)
Then:
2. Write about what he/she looks like or what she often does. (e.g. Jane has studied wild animals for many years. She has sunburnt face and arms, and looks slim, but strong.)
The 2nd paragraph:
Think about a topic sentence about this person.
(a topic sentence can be: what do you admire him/her; describe his/her character using the adj.; what kind of things he/she has achieved; or how you/other people view him/her)
e.g. Jane made great achievements in protecting wild animals.
2. In order to support this topic sentence, list as many points as you can think about him/her.
Topic sentence: Jane made great achievements in protecting wild animals.
Supporting sentence 1:
