Teaching procedures and ways
Step 1. Lead-in
Ask students what is subject? Collect their answers if they can. If not, show students sentences, find out what is the subject of each sentence and what can be used as subject.
Purpose: Use different sentences to get students to review what can be used as the subject and be introduced to the topic.
Step 2.
Task 1. Ask Ss to describe the pictures using –ing form and summarize what the sentences have in common. Introduce to Ss that –ing form can be put at the back of the sentence with it as the formal subject by an example sentence.
Get Ss to summarize what they should pay attention to when using –ing form.
Purpose: Get Ss to practise –ing form and find the rules.
Task 2. Give Ss some sentences to understand what is object and then ask them to make sentences by using v–ing. Get students to summarize the position where –ing used as object should be according to the example sentences . Highlight the composite structure of –ing by analyzing the example sentence.
Purpose: Get Ss to freely make sentences with –ing form and master the composite structure of –ing.
Task 3. Exercise: Get Ss to do the exercises in the sheet of their studying material. They can discuss the answers if they cannot deal with the exercises. Check their answers.
Purpose: Enable Ss to master more verbs and phrases which are followed by –ing form.
Task 4. Ask Ss to pay attention to the different meanings if the verb is connected with infinitive or –ing.
Purpose: Get Ss to distinguish the different meanings between the verb followed by to do and followed by –ing.
