Teaching Procedures
Step I. Warming up
T:Now please look at the poem on the screen:
Farmers weeding at noon,
Sweat down the field soon.
Who knows food on a tray,
Due to their toiling day?
T: Do you know it? Read it and say what does it mean?
Ss: Of course. It’s 悯农 written by Li Shen.
T: Right. The title is A HARD - WORKING FARMER. Please read it together. OK, hope you can remember it when you are having your dinner.
1. Have you ever been to the countryside? Are you interested in farming?
2. Do you know about farming steps?
3. Discussion : Suppose you have a garden, where you planted some vegetables .But there are weeds there .Then how do you get rid of weed?
T: May be you can turn to the book named Qi Min Yao Shu
Step II. Pre-reading
(1) Lead Ss to the reading text. Teacher may say, “Now you are going to read about another farmer, an early farmer pioneer. You have learned some Chinese history. Perhaps you know something about Qi Min Yao Shu, what is it ?
(2) Show the picture of the author of the book and encourage Ss to talk as much as possible.
Step III.Reading
1.Ask Ss to read the text quickly and answer the following questions.
What made Jia Sixie become interested in improving Chinese farming?
How did he think he could help farmer?
2.Ask Ss to read the text carefully and finish Ex2 on P52.
What advice did Jia Sixie give farmers?Make notes in the chart below
