Get the sudents to know the qualities to success.

Key points:

Help students learn how to understand and enjoy English humors.

Help students divide the text into several parts according to the meaning.

Summarize the main ideas of each paragraph and the whole text .

Train the students the ability of retelling a long passage.

Teaching aids: A recorder and a projector, pictures.

Teaching procedure:

Step 1. Revision

Check homework: vocubulary of Unit 3

Step 2. Funny pictures appreciation

Step 3. Get the students to know some types of humor

Step 4. have a guessing game: let students guess who he/she is according to a narration or a vedio

Step 5.Pre-reading

Have the students guess what the text is about.

Give students some time to discuss. (The purpose is to help students train their abilities of expression and raise their interest.)

Step 6. Reading

The purpose of this reading is to introduce nonverbal humor. This reading material takes Charlie Chaplin for example. It tells us what nonverbal humor means; what is Charlie Chaplin’s style of acting; how he made a sad situation entertaining and so on.

Task 1. Get the students to read to the tape ,then summarize the main idea of the text.

It is about the life and work of Charlie Chaplin and the kind of humour we can all laugh at – nonverbal humour.

. Task 2.Careful reading(students in pairs scan the text and fill out the blanks in their handout in eight minutes) (play a soft and gentle piece of music )
