Lead-in

Teacher: Today, we will learn something about body language. Before we officially start, let’s have a little quiz. That is “how can you let your mother know that you are hungry ?”(There are 3 options. The teacher should give limited condition one by one to make sure students can list all the possible answers)

Option one: say

Option two:write(what if you cannot say a word?)

Option three:body language(what if you cannot say or write it down?)

Performance & Description

Teacher: Actually, the 3ways of expressing of a person’s feeling are concluded as follows: spoken language, written language and body language. And body language has 3 parts. They are facial expression, gesture & action and sign language.(when introducing the background information of body language, the teacher should present some pictures of body language and guide students to imitate give body language to get prepared for the upcoming performances.)

Teacher: Then let’s take part in an activity. There are some body language you need to act them out. And the other students can tell us what kind of body language they are performing based on your understanding. So five of this line please come up there, while five of this line accordingly need to tell us your answer. Some tips will be given on PPT to help you act it out more accurately.

(Before performing, the teacher should make sure all the students understand the rule of this game, and emphasize no cheating is allowed.)

Teacher: Thank you all. Now, your role will be switched. This time, you act the body language by yourself, and try your best to tell what kind of body language it is.

Teacher: (Present some emojs of a cat to students ) Do you think you can understand the cat’s body language?(students answer) Different people have different opinions on one same thing. So maybe you will have different understanding of its body language. Use some details or description to support your understanding, like the example on the PPT. (Encourage students to say more about the details. If necessary, the teacher can offer them some words and expressions. At the end of this part, the teacher are supposed to ask students why they can understand body language of the cat, in order to come to the conclusion that animals have body language as human beings, for the listening part is about similarity and difference of )

Listening

Teacher: If there is connection of the three pictures, can you make your own story concerning the topic today ”body language”?(Make guesses about the content of the listening material, and at the same time lower the difficulty of understanding.)

(Play the mp3 at least twice. For the third time, the students should look at the ppt and fill in the blanks. The teacher can give some help if there is a need. )

Closing&Homework

Based on the question put forward in the listening part, give students some time to think and exchange opinions. If time available, chances should be given for presentation. If not, this will be left as the homework for today.
