Step 1. Warming up
(1)Warming up by brainstorming
Good morning, class. We shall take Unit 2 The United Kingdom today. But first let’s have a look at a picture. It is the Tower of London in the UK.
What occur to you if you come cross the United Kingdom?
Example: London (the capital); Big Ben; Westminster; The Tower of London; Hyde Park; St. Paul’s Cathedral; Buckingham Palace; Stonehenge; Oxford and Cambridge, Shakespeare; Shelley;
⑵ Warming up by doing a quiz
Do the quiz on page 9 and find out how much you know about the United Kingdom.
Step 2. Pre-reading
Read the title and the map , guess what the reading passage might be about.
Step 3. Reading

Task 1: What is the main idea of the text ?
