Unit 4:Reading: MY FIRST WORK ASSIGNMENT

“Unforgettable”, says new journalist

Teaching aims 1. Language targets: Help the students understand the passage and learn some specific expressions used to describe the duties of a journalist.

2. Language skills: Reading ---to grasp the main idea of the text by predicting, skimming and scanning.

3. Emotional targets: Get the students to know how to become a good journalist and arouse their enthusiasm for their future jobs. Step 1. Lead-in导入——创设情境,激发兴趣

Review Warming Up.

Show a situation: Journalists Wanted in Chaozhou Daily. Would you like to apply for the job? Are you ready for the job?

Step 2. Pre-reading读前——唤醒原有知识,为阅读做准备

What are the qualities a good journalist needs to have? (Show three pictures to help the students work out the qualities.)Do you have all these qualities now?

Next we’ll read an interesting story about Zhou Yang, a new journalist. Please open your book at Page 26. Reading: MY FIRST WORK ASSIGNMENT——“Unforgettable”, says new journalist.

Step 3. While-reading读中

TaskⅠ. Skimming略读——找课文的主要信息,了解大意

1. What does the passage mainly talk about? Skim the passage to get the main information about the story.

Task Ⅱ. Scanning跳读——找周扬提出的问题,理清文章主线

1. What questions did Zhou Yang ask his new boss? Find out Zhou Yang’s questions as quickly as possible.

2. Ask the students to read aloud the questions.

Explain the idiom on the blackboard:

get the wrong end of the stick: misunderstand (理解错误,完全误解)

3. Why did Zhou Yang ask so many questions?…… Because he was eager to learn how to become a good journalist.

Task Ⅲ. Detailed reading细读——填写对话中的关键信息,明确要点

According to the duties of a journalist, their discussion can be divided into three sections. Listen to the tape for each section and fill in the form to complete the duties of a journalist.
