Step 1: Leading in
1. Greet the class
Ask Ss from where they can get the information and what their favorite sections are.
(suggested answers: the internet, radio, magazine, TV, newspaper; local news, international news, business, sport, advertisement)
Step 2: Warming up
Ask the Ss how many different kinds of jobs newspaper have and what they should do.
Let the Ss discuss the process of making the news.
Step 3: Speaking (Making a news story)
Suppose they are going to interview the principal of this school and make the news.
Topic: 80th Anniversary of Jiangmen No.1 Middle School
Interviewer: Reporter from Jiangmen Daily
Interviewee: Principal Hua
Get the Ss work in group of four (two of them will be reporters, one of them will be the assistant, another will be the principal)
Tasks: a. Make an appointment with Principal Hua through his assistant. (reporter, assistant)
b. Ask Principal Hua 3-4 questions. (reporter)
c. Try to answer the questions. (principal)
d. Think out a proper headline for the news.
Ask one group from each team to present in front of the class.
