Students will be able to figure out the structure of writing an Introduction of an art gallery.

Students will be able to write an introduction of an art gallery by using the reviewed words and expressions and sentences in this unit.

Teaching Procedures

Step 1. Warming Up

Show the students famous paintings and ask them the place where the paintings are exhibited;

Give out the definition of the art gallery: a room or a series of rooms where works of art are exhibited;

Step2. Reading

Task 1: Go through the whole passage, and find out each art gallery on the map.

Task 2: Read the Para.1 and find out the function of each sentence, as well as the structure of the introduction of the art gallery.

Tip 1. Many art lovers would rather visit this small art gallery than any other in New York. (introductory sentence)

Tip 2. Henry Clay Frick, a rich New Yorker, died in 1919, leaving his house, furniture and art collection to the American people. (the founder or the origin of this gallery)

Tip 3. Frick had a preference for pre-twentieth century Western paintings, and these are well-represented in this excellent collection. (details of the works)

Tip 4. You can also explore Frick’s beautiful home and garden which are well worth a visit. (a sentence to appeal to the visitors)

Task 3: Divide the students into four groups, each group is asked to find out the structure of the introduction of their task paragraph.

Step3. Discussion

Activity 1: Suppose you are the guide, how will you introduce one of the galleries?

Activity 2: Suppose you are the guide of Xiangshan, how will you introduce Zhang Dehe Tree-Root Carving Art Gallery?
