The topic of this unit is poetry. It introduces the students to several simple forms of poems. It takes a look at some poetic devices like rhythm, rhyme, repetition an imagery.This lesson provides students with the opportunity to discuss the poetic devices of the presented poems. It aims to create a motivating atmosphere for students to appreciate English poems . With the presented poems as models ,students are also encouraged to use their creativity and their power of observation , to experiment with words and sounds, rhyme and rhythm to create their own poems .

1. To get students to learn more about English poems.
2. To get students to appreciate some English poems.
3. To inspire students to write an English poem after appreciation and imitation .

Step 1. Lead in
A guessing game
Purpose: To lead students to the topic and arouse the students’ interest in the next new poems.
Ask students to guess five Chinese poems with tips of pictures and the English versions
Step 2. Presentation
Appreciating the first poem A red red rose
Purpose:
1).To give students an example about how to appreciate an English poem .
2).To get some details and learn the meaning of the poem by analyzing its rhyming words and images.
1.Brainstorming
Ask students in what aspects we can appreciate a poem .
1). What are the rhyming words of the poem ?
2). What images are used in the poem?
3). With these images what emotion does the poet want to convey ?
