1. Title interpretation

Show the title of the unit on the screen, guide the Ss to have a brainstorm.

T: what does living well mean? You can choose various adjectives to complete the sentence on the screen.

Living well means living a/an ___________ life

Ss: good/rich/wonderful/ meaningful / positive ... ...

2. Content prediction

T: Everybody expects to live well, but what will this passage talk about? Now I’ll show you some pictures, let’s guess what the passage is mainly about? Observe the pictures, what do they have in common?

Ss: people with disabilities.

3. Discussion

Do you know anyone with a mental or physical disability?

Do you think they live well?

Show 3 pictures on the screen, Beethoven, Helen Keller and Stephen Hawking

Teamwork: each team chooses one from the three people to have a discussion, 2 minutes later, ask several students to speak out in class.

T: Yes, living well is not the privilege of healthy people; people with disabilities can also live a wonderful life. Do you agree with me? Today we’ll come to know about a boy called Marty who has his problems.
