Teaching procedures
Step 1 Warming up and lead-in
First, show students a video about the undersea world and ask them
Which sea animal impresses you the most?
Use one sentence to describe your feeling after watching the video.
Step 2 Pre-reading
Look at the title and pictures on Page 24. Can you predict what might the passage tell us?
Step 3 Fast Reading
(1) What is the type of writing?
(2) Choose the right structure of the passage. Try to use one or a few words to summarize each part.
Step 4 Detailed Reading
1. Read para. 1 and think about the following questions.
(1) How did the author feel about his snorkelling trip?
He thought it was a day of pure magic and it was the most fantastic thing he had ever done.
(2) What does “a whole new dimension of life” refer to?
It refers to the undersea world.
Read para.2-5 and answer the following questions.
Use two adjectives to summarize the author’s first impression of the sea with proper evidence.
What “delightful” and “dangerous” sea creatures did the author meet and how did the author describe them?
What’s good about using so many adjectives?
Read para. 5 and think about:Why was the author’s heart beating wildly?
Because the author felt very exposed in such deep clear water.
Read Para 6 and anwer : After the whole journey, how did the author feel? How about you?
