教材分析
本课时使用的是人教版新课标教科书选修7 unit3 单元中，using language 中A new dimension of life。本单元有七个课时，这是第五课时。前面课时中，reading是一篇关于虎鲸帮助人类捕鲸已及救落水船员的故事。通过这故事学生已经了解了人类和海洋生物的和谐关系，认识到了保护海洋的重要性。这一课时我们主要就是要向学生展现美丽丰富的海底世界。通过作者的潜水经历带我们进入美丽的海洋世界。通过描述海底世界，让我们了解美轮美奂的海底世界同时，也让我们接触到了许多关于描写海底世界的形容词以及其他的一些修饰词。
学情分析
前面课时学习中，学习了第一篇阅读，对本单元话题有所了解。学生基本具备了理解本课文的语言基础。
因为学生英语水平有限，所以将这篇日记分成两个课时让学生来学习：1.阅读和讨论；2.语言学习和写作。此为第一课时（40分钟）教学设计。

2. Ability goals
a. Enable the Ss to know more about the living things under the sea and experience the beautiful and harmonious nature by reading a diary describing the animals and scenery under the sea.
b. Learn to write a similar one according to the expressions given.
3. Emotional goals
Let the students get to know the beauty of the sea and love the sea. Realize the importance of protecting the sea.
